About

I've been a computer nerd for as long as I can remember. At some point, I turned my hobby into a profession and now I hold a degree in computer science from FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg. I'm currently working at Fraunhofer IIS (home of mp3) with a focus on multimedia transport. In the course of my professional work, I became somewhat of an expert in international standardization, representing my company in organizations like MPEG, DVB, DASH-IF or CTA (among others).

In my spare time, I still spend too much time in front of computers. Although I managed to get the "fiddling around" down to a minimum by using macOS at home and running OpenBSD on the servers, there's enough to rant about. When it comes to programming, I try to solve the high-level stuff in Python whenever possible. For actual programming my first choice is usually C or C++, not because I think it's particularly beautiful, just because I've been using it for so long.

Since I'm updating the paragraph about my hobbies more often than I write actual blog posts, here's just a tentative list of things I currently enjoy in my spare time: board games and tabletops, RPGs, cooking, brewing beer, photography, programming (recreational), sailing, climbing and bouldering, swimming, and probably more. Additionally, as you might have guessed from the odd URL, Amateur Radio is also part of the list.

Since German law requires any website to have an Impressum, the following paragraph is the

Please don't be surprised about delayed contact via phone, I'm not at home that often. If you feel the need to contact me, drop me an e-mail or send me a letter.
